An illegal structure along Jalan Kampung Batu in Taman Mastiara, Kuala Lumpur, appears to be almost ready despite a stop-work order issued by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) last year.

The building, which sits on land reserved for MRT and KTMB projects, is now 90% completed.

A check by StarMetro confirmed that there was no project notice at the site.

Kepong community activist Yee Poh Ping, in a press conference, said a letter from DBKL’s Building Control Department to him on Aug 1 last year, confirmed that no building plan approval was granted for the project.

The department also ordered all commercial activities at the site to cease.

Yee questioned the lack of enforcement when there was a written instruction to halt works.

“If DBKL has already confirmed there is no approved building plan, why is the structure almost completed?

“Why is the Enforcement Department not acting on instructions from the Building Control Department?”

Yee said residents of Kiana East Dex Suites, located opposite the site, had highlighted the absence of a project notice.

He said this was one of six buildings in the city facing complaints regarding lack of project notices and action by authorities.

He added that the absence of documentation raised safety concerns.

Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) complaints and welfare bureau (central) head Lee Hoi Eng said it was standard practice for developers to display a project notice board.

“But in this case, there is no notice. This keeps happening in this area.

“The structure is clearly visible from the roadside; it is impossible to miss,” he said, urging the Batu MP to look into the matter.

DBKL did not respond to requests for comments at press time.
