Travel fair returns to KL with 2,000 booths in April

The 58th MATTA Fair returns to Kuala Lumpur next week, offering abundant deals at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) from April 3 to 5.

Organised by the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), the three-day event will run from 10am to 9pm, featuring over 2,000 booths by 330 organisations, including tour agencies, tourism boards, hotels and theme parks.

MATTA research and technology vice-president Datuk Mohd Hizzat Mohd Shah said it aimed to capture momentum from the renewed appetite for domestic and international travel.

“Malaysians are natural explorers, and tourism remains an important part of the industry’s ecosystem,” he said at the launch in Kuala Lumpur.

He stressed that destinations offering exposure to different cultures, gastronomy experiences, and entertainment stand to benefit most from the current travel climate.

As part of this year’s fair, Macao has been named the International Favourite Destination for a second consecutive year.

In a statement, MATTA said Macao was being promoted due to its rich heritage, local food and accessibility.

“Recent data shows sustained recovery, with Macao recording 3.65 million visitor arrivals in January this year.

“International arrivals rose 15.5% year-on-year to 278,000, while Malaysian arrivals jumped by 52.3%.”

Macao government tourism office deputy director Cheng Wai Tong said the nomination was an outstanding opportunity to attract more Malaysian visitors.

He added that Macao wanted to appeal to would-be visitors through its immersive and localised experiences.

“Macao is positioning itself as a lifestyle hub with festivals, gastronomy events and cultural experiences,” said Cheng.

Also present at the launch was MATTA honorary treasurer Rocky Kho.

Admission to the fair is free, with a shuttle service available from KL Sentral and Sunway Putra Mall.

Parking is available at the South Entrance basement of Mitec, the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) basement and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) open-air carpark.
