Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) distributed donations totalling RM60,000 to 150 orphans and 100 underprivileged families during an iftar gathering at Laman MBPJ.

Mayor Datuk Mohamad Zahri Samingon presented the contributions at the event in front of MBPJ headquarters in Jalan Yong Shook Lin.

“It reflects MBPJ’s commitment to community well-being, especially for the less fortunate,” he said in a statement, adding that it was part of ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts.

The orphans, from Masjid Dato’ Haji Kamaruddin, Masjid Ara Damansara and Masjid As-Salam congregations, each received RM200, shopping vouchers worth RM130 and Raya biscuits.

The underprivileged families identified via the eKasih database received a donation of RM300 each and Raya biscuits.

At the gathering that was also attended by deputy mayor Aznan Hassan, Mohamad Zahri presented certificates of appreciation to six companies and five MBPJ councillors who contributed to the event.

“This strategic partnership reflects the corporate sector’s continued commitment to supporting MBPJ’s efforts to strengthen community well- being,” added Mohamad Zahri.

The programme was in step with the MBPJ Strategic Plan 2026–2030, which outlines six strategic thrusts covering economy, urban development, inclusive and prosperous communities, integrity and governance, low-carbon cities and climate adaptation, and people-friendly service delivery.
