The Ramadan programme by Maybank Islamic Bhd (MIB), Etiqa Insurance and Takaful (Etiqa), the group’s staff zakat committee as well as Maybank Singapore and Indonesia will benefit 79,107 beneficiaries, covering a cumulative expenditure of over RM7.2mil.

A total of 161 mosques across Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines were also strategically selected to enable Maybank to reach out to the intended beneficiaries.

In a statement, Maybank chairman Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said, “Through our group-wide Ramadan efforts, we are reminded that our responsibilities extend beyond our business objectives.

“It also reaffirms our duty as an organisation in fulfilling our Islamic responsibilities and stewardship.

“At the heart of our purpose of humanising financial services, we also believe that sustainable growth must be in tandem with inclusive prosperity.

“Therefore, we remain steadfast in using our resources, expertise and relationships to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.”

Efforts began with MIB’s annual Regional Ramadan Relief programme held in various countries, providing food aid to 12,546 underprivileged families.

In Malaysia, 80 economically vulnerable families in Alor Setar, Kedah, received food boxes.

Complementing this was MIB’s “Salam Festival” programme, comprising the “Salam Iftar Perdana” and “Salam Syawal” Open House.

Collectively, they benefitted 35,985 individuals in Malaysia, while in Indonesia 18,000 underprivileged individuals and families received support through meal distributions and Syawal community engagement activities.

In Singapore, 1,850 beneficiaries, including lower-income families, benefitted from similar outreach efforts, while 850 individuals from underserved Muslim communities in the Philippines received Ramadan assistance and participated in Syawal gatherings.

At the same time, Etiqa rolled out its “Kasih Ramadan” initiative, benefitting 1,020 individuals through continued access to essential household necessities and easing the cost of living pressures.

The upcoming Etiqa Soup Kitchen programme in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur, aims to support 600 beneficiaries from vulnerable urban communities.

In addition to this, Etiqa General Insurance Bhd held an iftar event for 50 children from a local orphanage.

Its other programmes include “Kongsi Rezeki Bersama Etiqa”, a Ramadan gathering with orphans and asnaf at KLCC’s As-Syakirin Mosque and Etiqa Indonesia’s employee iftar gathering.

The group’s zakat employee committee initiatives include the “Mufti Bersama Masyarakat” programme and outreach programmes such as clothes shopping and iftar session for 120 orphans and asnaf.

In addition to this, several zakat assistance programmes had also been introduced, focusing on the welfare of employees and ensuring continued access to quality education for their children, such as the Back to School Assistance and Financial Assistance.

An Integrated Medical Assistance programme provides one-off support to staffers facing critical medical needs, while a Special Children Assistance programme benefits those with children with special needs to support expenses.

Zakat assistance had also been extended to 250 eligible Maybank security personnel and 500 cleaners experiencing financial hardship.

Meanwhile, Maybank Indonesia organised programmes such as an iftar session benefitting 300 orphans and orphanage visit providing moral support and donations to 100 orphans.

The group expressed its plans to continue to accelerate its social empowerment efforts, targeting up to RM100mil in impact by 2030.
