FOR the second consecutive year, pupils at a school in Kuala Baram, 25km from Miri, Sarawak, received aid for the new school year.

This was made possible by Nam Cheong, one of South-East Asia’s leading offshore support vessel players.

The company, with roots in Sarawak, donated essentials to support 49 pupils from SK Baram 1.

Donated items included uniforms, shoes and socks, bags, stationery and exercise books.

Nam Cheong operations executive director Joseph Tiong emphasised the connection between the company and the Kuala Baram community.

“Kuala Baram is very close to our hearts.

“Since the early 1960s, our dockyard and operations here have grown together with the people of this community.

“Many of our leaders, staff and crew come from Kuala Baram and our success has been built on their hard work, loyalty and commitment.

“This programme is our way of giving back to the community that has helped shape Nam Cheong,” he said.

Tiong highlighted that the programme’s deeper purpose was to instil confidence and hope.

“Education opens doors and creates better choices in life.

“Where you start does not decide where you will end up – what matters is effort, attitude and belief in yourself.”

Tiong also extended the company’s appreciation to the school’s educators and pupils’ parents for their dedication and guidance.
