Nam Cheong nets US$20.5mil in vessel sale

PETALING JAYA: Sarawak-based, Singapore-listed Nam Cheong Ltd has entered into a sales agreement to sell a 4,000 deadweight tonnage platform supply vessel for US$20.5mil (RM83mil) to a Vietnam-based offshore and marine group.

The offshore support vessel builder, in a statement, said the delivery of the vessel is scheduled for December 2025, and the sale is expected to contribute positively to the group’s earnings for the financial year ending 2025.

“Net proceeds will be primarily redeployed to support the group’s shipbuilding activities, either for external sales or to support the group’s fleet expansion to grow the recurring income base, depending on prevailing opportunities,” Nam Cheong said.

It said the sale is part of its fleet reprofiling initiatives, enabling the divestment of ageing vessels at favourable pricing while supporting efficient capital recycling for its in-house shipbuilding operations.
