NEWLY appointed Johor deputy police chief M. Hoo Chuan Huat has pledged to build on the state’s crime-fighting successes following his promotion to the rank of Deputy Commissioner (DCP).

Speaking after his official appointment ceremony at state police headquarters, DCP Hoo – who had led the Johor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) since 2023 – pledged his commitment to his expanded responsibilities.

“I would like to express my appreciation to the CID director for the trust he has placed in me to lead the department,” he said.

“Although it has not been an easy responsibility, I made a promise to myself to carry it out to the best of my ability.”

He also paid tribute to the state’s top leadership for their role in the department’s achievements.

“I would also like to thank the Johor police chief for his confidence in me and for always supporting my efforts to ensure that the crime rate in Johor remains under control,” said DCP Hoo.

The ceremony in Johor Baru also saw the formal handover of the CID chief role to Senior Asst Comm Mohd Zairi Badderul @ Badrol, who previously served as DCP Hoo’s deputy.

Reflecting on his career, DCP Hoo described the CID as the cornerstone of his service.

“The CID feels like part of my very being, as much of my service in the police force has been spent within this department.

“If I were to recount each and every experience I had here, it would surely unfold into a story filled with challenges, hardships and joys, and one without an ending,” he said.

He expressed a strong vote of confidence in his successor’s ability to lead the department.

“I firmly believe that with the experience and abilities he possesses, he will be capable of leading the Criminal Investigation Department to a level that will make us proud,” DCP Hoo added.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad, who witnessed the proceedings, reminded the new leadership team that their elevation came with heightened public expectations.

“A promotion is not a reward, but rather a trust that comes with weight and responsibility,” he said.

“The rank conferred today demands a higher level of commitment, honesty and integrity than ever before.

“Demonstrate qualities of positive work ethic, integrity, innovation, creativity, responsibility and sincerity in carrying out your duties,” said Comm Ab Rahaman.
