WATER quality in Sungai Ramal, Kajang, has stabilised with no further odour pollution detected.
Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) conducted tests following the discovery of dozens of dead fish and a snake earlier this month.
It said investigations were ongoing to pinpoint the exact source of the Feb 11 incident at Taman Kajang Impian, Section 8, Bandar Baru Bangi.
A LUAS spokesperson said that while the river was found to be in satisfactory condition, the cause of the incident remained unconfirmed.
“The discharge is believed to have originated from the identified area, but several release points must be examined individually,” added the spokesperson.
LUAS said it conducted immediate investigations on the day the incident occurred.
“Inspections at a neighbourhood in Country Heights identified an outflow entering a pond in the area, which was suspected to have caused the fish deaths.
“Further checks indicated that the discharge might have originated from the Balakong Jaya industrial area upstream,” it added.
Water samples were sent to the LUAS laboratory for analysis.
It said inspections were being carried out in stages in the industrial area.
On Feb 16, LUAS and Kajang Municipal Council issued Zero Discharge Policy compliance notices to factory operators as a preventive measure.
“Monitoring and enforcement will continue,” LUAS told StarMetro.
On Feb 13, it was reported that a python and dozens of fish were found dead in Sungai Ramal, raising concerns among residents over possible pollution.
