A series of youth-focused programmes will be carried out at five Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centres (TMIYC) across Johor this year.
State youth, sports, entrepreneur development and cooperatives committee chairman Mohd Hairi Md Shah said the youth centres network was part of the Johor government’s long-term plan to ensure every district had a dedicated youth hub.
The state government, he said, aimed to establish TMIYC in all 10 districts.
“The focus will be on activating the existing centres with impactful programmes tailored to the needs of youths in different districts, ranging from sports and entrepreneurship to creative industry activities and community-based events,” he said.
Mohd Hairi said among the key programmes planned included “Hari Sukan Negara”, “Rentak Legasi Johor”, Iskandar Puteri Soccer Drone Challenge and Esport Academy by Soloz at TMIYC Iskandar Puteri.
“JB Muzika@TMIYC, JB Fit, JB Story Time and JB Fit Extreme will be held at Johor Baru youth centre, with International Paintball Championship and Hari Keusahawanan at Pasir Gudang.
“Open Day TMIYC Muar, Muar Fit@TMIYC and community sports activities at Muar youth centre as well as Renggam Fiesta 4.0, youth camps and taekwondo championships will be at Renggam in the Kluang district.”
Mohd Hairi said each youth centre offered different facilities.
“TMIYC Johor Baru features a skatepark, wall climbing, mountain bike and pump track, parkour park, stage, canopy walk, and chill pods, while TMIYC Pasir Gudang houses a multipurpose hall, amphitheatre, paddle court, wading pool, archery range and food truck area.
“TMIYC Muar focuses on field and court sports facilities including football fields, running track, futsal, badminton, netball, tennis and basketball courts, whereas TMIYC Renggam has a stadium, volleyball and basketball courts, multipurpose hall and outdoor gym.”
He said TMIYC Iskandar Puteri, which was expected to be completed at the end of the year, would feature futsal and paddle courts, a gymnasium and art space among its facilities.
Mohd Hairi said five TMIYCs were operational in Johor Baru, Pasir Gudang, Muar and Renggam.
“Two centres are under construction in Iskandar Puteri and Tangkak, while others are being planned for Batu Pahat, Segamat and Mersing.
“The biggest challenge in implementing the TMIYC network statewide is ensuring sustainable management and maintenance of the facilities, while keeping programmes relevant to youths from different socio-economic backgrounds.”
He said the overall allocation for the TMIYC initiative stood at RM182.45mil, with each centre receiving between RM2.5mil to RM45mil.
