Special funds sought for community programmes

A COUNCILLOR has proposed that Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) provide a special allocation for community programmes and cultural festivals.

Mohd Fadil Misdan said it would help foster unity and attract more tourists for Visit Johor 2026 (VJ2026).

“With the increase in MPKu’s development expenditure this year, I propose a special allocation for councillors for community programmes and traditional festivals in their respective zones.

“In the context of Visit Johor 2026, traditional programmes at zonal levels can revitalise communities,” he said during the MPKu full board meeting.

Mohd Fadil also called on the local council to take complaints seriously and leave none unresolved.

“I wish to stress that complaints should not be ignored, left unattended or passed around without a clear resolution.

“The department’s professional assessment may be technically correct, but in the absence of communication, follow-up action or engagement on the ground, what is right can ultimately be perceived as wrong in the eyes of the public.”

He said he had submitted an official letter to MPKu regarding unresolved complaints in 2025.

“If the department is unable to resolve all of them within a given period, the appropriate approach should not be to leave them unattended.

“Even if 30% or 40% were resolved, it would reflect the department’s commitment and sincerity,” said Mohd Fadil.

“We, as councillors, and the complainants would feel satisfied knowing that the complaints have been acted upon, acknowledged and not dismissed,” he added.

MPKu president Mohd Hafiz Aliman said the council would study Mohd Fadil’s suggestions.

“There is a need for the council to improve its response to complaints and this is something we will work on this year,” Mohd Hafiz said.
