FOR decades, drive-in dining has been synonymous with a fast-food chain in Petaling Jaya.
As the brand marks its 62nd year in Malaysia, A&W has revived the drive-in dining experience at its Petaling Jaya outlet.
Malayan United Industries Bhd chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) Andrew Khoo said the move revives a format deeply rooted in the company’s early history in the country.
“It is about reconnecting with what made A&W distinctive when it first opened in Malaysia in 1965,” he said.
Following a year-end gathering at the outlet, the drive-in format was revived, with dedicated bays allowing customers to place orders through their app and be served directly at their cars.
Khoo said the revival was complemented by the return of onion rings, which had earlier been discontinued, along with the introduction of new menu items including a waffle paired with a root beer sauce.
A&W Malaysia also contributed RM1,000 to support Books for a Better World’s (BFBW) literacy focused initiative, which channels donated books to charities and community groups.
BFBW CEO Adrian Ung said the collaboration reflected a shared interest in promoting reading and education.
The A&W Petaling Jaya outlet is also hosting a book donation drive for BFBW until the end of March.
Pre-loved books such as fiction, non-fiction and children’s storybooks (which are still in good condition) can be dropped off at dedicated bins placed inside the outlet.
