More than 1,190 pupils and 74 teachers of SJK(C) Poi Lam in Ipoh, Perak, are benefitting from upgrades made through a bank’s education outreach programme.

Improvements to the school through a donation from OCBC Bank (M) Bhd Ipoh branch included installation of energy efficient LED lights and repainting of two computer rooms, according to a media release.

SJK(C) Poi Lam headmaster Kong Cheok Yik said the contribution came at an ideal time.

“We have been looking at ways to provide a better learning experience,” he said.

“Pupils will now be able to use the computers and enhance their information technology learning in a more comfortable setting.”

Branch senior manager Ivy Choong Miew Hiun said the bank engaged with communities it served by assessing their needs and striving to meet them in the spirit of long-term societal good.

“Our aspiration to be Asia’s leading financial services partner for a sustainable future extends beyond our customers.

“We want to be the bank that enables communities around us to realise their aspirations as well.

“OCBC Bank serves the communities in which it operates nationwide through in the fields of education, environment and healthcare.

“We trust that upgrading the computer rooms will create an improved learning environment for the students as they hone their digital capabilities,” she said.

The bank also conducted a session on financial literacy and online scam awareness to educate the school community about money management.
