PETALING JAYA: The Perak unity government remains committed to ensuring that all streams of education receive fair and equitable attention, says Kepayang assemblyman Nga Kor Ming.
“Education is a long-term investment for the state and the country. Therefore, supporting these Private Chinese Schools is in line with the principles of inclusiveness and social justice,” he said during the allocation handover ceremony at the Perak Hock Kean Association in Ipoh on Saturday (Jan 24).
The Housing and Local Government Minister handed over RM1.8mil in allocations from the Perak state government to nine Private Chinese Schools around Ipoh.
These are private, non-profit institutions that operate independently of the national education system and primarily use Mandarin as the medium of instruction.
The schools that received the allocations are Sekolah Menengah Shen Jai, Sekolah Menengah Yuk Choy, Poi Lam High School, Sekolah Tinggi Nan Hwa, Sekolah Menengah Yik Ching, Sekolah Menengah Tsung Wah, Kuala Kangsar, Sekolah Menengah San Min (Teluk Intan), Sekolah Tinggi Hua Lian, Taiping and Sekolah Menengah Pei Yuan, Kampar.
He expressed hope that the RM200,000 allocation per school would help.
Later, the Teluk Intan MP also presented financial assistance totaling RM524,600 to 333 secondary school students and undergraduates at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan San Min, Teluk Intan.
He said the Madani Kasih aid, an initiative by the Teluk Intan Dap MP service centre, has benefited more than 5,000 students from various races in the Teluk Intan parliamentary constituency since 2023.
As part of his official working visit, Nga attended the Ponggal celebration at the Devi Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Ladang Nova Scotia, with 200 Indian students from SJK(T) Ladang Nova Scotia and nearby residents.
He then attended the inauguration of the Phooi Yong Chinese National-Type School (SJKC) basketball court, which received a RM100,000 allocation.
Also present were Perak state executive councillor Woo Kah Leong and Changkat Jong state assembly coordinating officer Badrul Hisham, representing the Perak Mentri Besar.
