KUALA Lumpur’s landscape of skyscrapers and historical buildings preserved from the Colonial era brings pride to the nation.

It is therefore no surprise that international artist Ab Nassar Ibrahim from Kerala, India, was inspired to capture it in a painting displayed at Fusion Art Malaysia 2025.

The piece in acrylic features the iconic Kuala Lumpur Tower, Petronas Twin Towers, Masjid Jamek and Merdeka 118 among other elements that make up the Malaysian capital.

Ab Nassar said the artwork was based on his observation of local culture and the country’s unique tourist destinations.

“I wanted to bring Malaysian culture onto a small canvas.

“Malaysia is a beautiful tourist destination and I wished to gather all that beauty into a single image,” the 56-year-old said.

Although the 60cm x 77cm painting took him just 30 minutes, Ab Nassar told Bernama that he did not compromise on quality, ensuring every element was clearly expressed.

“Painting is very challenging because we need to use various methods to ensure the image comes to life.

“However, it is an enjoyable process, and painting Malaysia’s uniqueness was a wonderful experience.”

The RM5,500 piece was purchased by Topcom director Datuk Dr Mohamed Alwi Abdul Rahman, who said: “This painting depicts our country in a single image, telling the story of our independence and journey of national development.

“I believe each artist has his or her own way of expressing the nation through a personal perspective.

“In the case of Ab Nassar, his painting further strengthens the spirit of patriotism in advancing Malaysia,” said Dr Mohamed Alwi, who recently started collecting art.

The art showcase, held at a gallery in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, featured a diverse collection of works by artists from 20 countries.
