Rapid On-Demand expands: 53 new zones and 300 electric vans planned

PRASARANA Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) will be adding 53 new zones to its Rapid On-Demand service, which is currently available in the Klang Valley and Penang.

The new zones will be gradually introduced from next year until the end of 2028.

Of the 53 zones, 31 will be added in the Klang Valley and 22 will be added in Penang, according to Prasarana Planning and Strategy head Sharul Azwa Abd Rani.

She also said Prasarana will invest in 300 new electric vans starting at the end of 2027.

"A total of 130 vans will be deployed in the Klang Valley while 170 more will be deployed in Penang," she said during a media briefing session at Menara Prasarana in Petaling Jaya on Monday (Jan 19).

She also said Rapid On-Demand users will need to pay a fare of RM2 per trip from Feb 1.

"The current promotional fare of RM1 will be in place until Jan 31, which is the final day of Rapid On-Demand's proof of concept phase, which started in 2023.

"The RM2 fare will also apply to holders of the My50, Rapid Kota, Rapid Kembara and Rapid Keluarga travel passes.

"Holders of the Rapid Pelajar and Rapid Emas passes will continue enjoying a 50% discount while Rapid Mesra concession card holders will continue enjoying free rides," she said.

Also present were Rapid Bus acting chief executive officer Ku Jamil Zakaria, Strategic Partnership and Infrastructure Development Unit head Khairil Khalid and manager Zarul Hidayat.
