A LICENSED chicken slaughterhouse was hit with four compounds totalling RM5,500 by Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) over health breaches and illegal waste disposal.

Its Corporate Communications director Norfiza Mahfiz said the raid was triggered by public complaints regarding a bad stench in the area.

“Investigations found that water contaminated with chicken blood had been discharged into drains, eventually flowing into Sungai Che Wang in Port Klang.

“The slaughterhouse produced large quantities of by-products, including entrails, feathers and blood,” she said.

“Failure to dispose of these properly not only resulted in foul odour but also poses a significant risk of spreading diseases,” Norfiza added.

The operator, who supplies about 5,000 birds daily to markets and restaurants in Meru and Kapar, was issued three compounds of RM1,000 each under MBDK’s Food Establishment By-laws 2007 for general violations.

A further maximum fine of RM2,500 was issued under Section 70 of the Local Government Act 1976 for discharging contaminated waste into the drain.

Norfiza said that the operator would not be given any reduction on the fine.

In addition to the compounds, MBDK issued a notice compelling the operator to immediately improve hygiene standards and maintain site cleanliness.

The joint operation involved MBDK’s Health, Licensing and Enforcement departments.
