HULU SELANGOR: More than 50% of the 74 listed indigenous villages in Selangor are currently being gazetted.
Selangor human resources and poverty eradication committee chairman V. Papparaidu expressed his hope for positive progress on these villages by the end of this year.
He also said some indigenous villages face land zoning issues, as some are located on Malay reserved lands.
"We will work with the district officers to resolve this issue.
"Meanwhile, we will also continue expanding our efforts to gazette as many indigenous villages as possible, including those not currently listed," he said after attending the Jelajah Wanita Berdaya Tahan Selangor 2026 Zon Hulu Selangor at Bukit Beruntung Golf and Country Resort here on Aug 15.
Held alongside the event was the JobCare Selangor job carnival, which saw 5,785 jobs offered by 38 companies.
Papparaidu said 5,005 of the jobs offered are based in Selangor, while the remaining ones are based in Perak and Negri Sembilan.
"Manufacturing is the sector with the most job vacancies, totaling 2,560.
"63.56% of the available jobs at the carnival also offer a monthly salary of more than RM2,500. For managerial level positions, the monthly salary offered ranges from RM8,000 to RM10,000," he said.
He also said the Selangor government will continue equipping the youths with skills through courses offered by the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre.
"We also helped 20 to 30 school teachers who currently lack qualifications to obtain a diploma via a three-month course. They received a level 4 Malaysian Skills Certificate, equivalent to a diploma, after completing the course.
"Most of them joined the education industry right after taking SPM, probably due to family or economic pressures. With a diploma, they can earn a higher salary," he added.
The job carnival offered opportunities for job interviews.
It also included a career comeback programme for mothers by Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad and a resume review service by the Social Security Organisation.
