Creating edutainment magic on sustainability

Selangor is expected to see an ecotourism and edutainment theme park opening this year in Klang.

Magika Studios, located at the 28.32ha Mangrove Point in Port Klang, is set for completion by mid year.

“Magika Studios will be a unique attraction that showcases the beauty of mangrove forests while promoting sustainability values through entertainment and education,” said Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB) managing director Syaiful Azmen Nordin.

He said development of the theme park – a joint venture between LLSB, the master developer of the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) project and KRU Entertainment Sdn Bhd – began last October.

Magika Studios is the second phase of a collaboration with KRU Entertainment, with a joint allocation of RM5mil.

“This project is part of the ESG (environmental, social and governance) development initiatives under SMG, emphasising technology and entertainment as a medium for environmental education,” he said, Bernama reported.

Syaiful Azmen said the collaboration aimed to highlight how sustainable development could be realised in tandem with conservation and preservation of natural ecosystems.

This would ultimately make Sungai Klang not only a rehabilitated waterway, but also a new pulse for the state’s green economy and tourism, he said at the agreement signing ceremony between LLSB and KRU Entertainment in Shah Alam.

The event was attended by KRU Entertainment president and chief executive officer Datuk Norman Abdul Halim.

Magika Studios is expected to feature immersive light displays and creative storytelling using local folklore characters, developed with the goal of increasing public awareness of the conservation and preservation of the Sungai Klang ecosystem.

Syaiful Azmen said the project reflected commitment to ESG principles, particularly in enhancing public awareness of environmental conservation through creative education and responsible tourism.

“By combining elements of nature, innovation and storytelling, Magika Studios will not only increase public appreciation for river conservation, but also stimulate economic and tourism activities in Selangor, positioning Sungai Klang as a symbol of sustainability and state pride,” he added.

Norman thanked the Selangor government and LLSB for the opportunity to bring to life the cinematic experience of the multi-award-winning film Magika in the form of an edutainment-themed attraction.

“This collaboration enables us to combine our expertise in entertainment and digital technology with LLSB’s aspirations to nurture awareness of environmental conservation.”
