A programme celebrating outstanding climate leadership by global water utility companies recognised Pengurusan Air Selangor at its event in Bangkok, Thailand.

The International Water Association (IWA) Climate Smart Utilities Recognition Programme selection was announced in conjunction with IWA Water and Development Congress and Exhibition 2025.

In a media release, Air Selangor said the recognition placed it among a select group of utility agencies acknowledged for their commitment to climate resilience, emissions reduction, and leadership in sustainable water management.

The programme saw a total of 48 applications from utilities across 25 low- and middle-income countries.

The list was tapered down to 18 recognised as Climate Smart Utilities, with Air Selangor and two other among them recognised as Outstanding Utilities, reflecting exceptional performance across the programme’s evaluation criteria.

The company said its selection underscored ongoing efforts to embed climate considerations into its operational planning and long-term strategies.

Air Selangor chief executive officer Adam Saffian Ghazali said, “We are truly honoured and pleasantly surprised to receive this recognition from IWA.

“Being selected as one of the three Outstanding Utilities affirms the collective effort of our teams in advancing climate-smart initiatives and strengthens our resolve to continue delivering resilient and sustainable water services for our consumers.”

The IWA Climate Smart Utilities Recognition Programme aims to inspire water and sanitation utilities globally to adopt climate-smart practices by focusing on adaptation, mitigation and leadership.

The programme evaluates utilities based on how they manage climate risks, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lead positive change within the water sector.
