AYER HITAM: Thousands of people from various backgrounds attended a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house hosted by Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
He said the event drew attendees not only from the Yong Peng state constituency but also from the Semarang state constituency within the Ayer Hitam parliamentary constituency.
“Guests from various races came together in a spirit of unity, exchanging greetings and enjoying the festive atmosphere while sampling a variety of food prepared for the occasion,” he said in a Facebook post on March 28.
He added that the event reflected the strong spirit of harmony and togetherness among the local community.
Dr Wee, who is also MCA president, said the celebration, held on the eighth day of Syawal, was jointly organised with Yong Peng assemblyman Ling Tian Soon, who is also a Johor executive councillor.
During the programme, he and Ling also presented the Johor One-Off Student Incentive Aid for Session 1/2026 to 638 students from the Yong Peng constituency.
Dr Wee expressed appreciation to the state government, led by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, as well as Yayasan Pelajaran Johor, for their support in providing the assistance.
He said the initiative aimed to ease the financial burden of students and their families while encouraging the youths to pursue higher education.
Among the notable guests present were Semarang assemblyman and Johor State Assembly Deputy Speaker Datuk Samsolbari Jamali, Tenang assemblyman Haslinda Salleh and Yong Peng District Council president Mohd Norman Noor.
Also in attendance were local councillors, state government officials, representatives from non-governmental organisations and community leaders.
Dr Wee said such gatherings not only strengthened community ties but also served as a platform to engage with the rakyat in a more informal setting.
He hopes similar programmes can continue to foster unity and goodwill among Malaysians of all backgrounds.
