IT was billed as Snowvember, though not a single snowflake fell.
But what the event lacked in real snow, it more than made up for in atmosphere.
Thousands of families attended Hunza Properties Bhd’s inaugural three-day Christmas event at Juru Auto City.
By late afternoon it was transformed by twinkling lights and bustling with activity at the food stalls, game booths and petting corner with rabbits, ducks, chickens and hamsters.
According to Hunza group executive director Khor Tze Ming, the event was due to constant invitations and requests from friends, purchasers and long-time supporters on Penang’s mainland.
“For years, they kept calling us to ‘come over to the other side’.
“So this year, we decided it was time to bring the celebration to them, to thank them and to share what’s coming with the PICC,” she said referring to the Penang International Commercial City (PICC), the developer’s flagship smart integrated township taking shape on 17.4ha in Bayan Lepas.
The opening ceremony was officiated by state housing and environment committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundararajoo Somu.
Designed as a next-generation landmark where living, working, learning, leisure and healthcare sit alongside, PICC aims to become Penang’s future urban nucleus.
“Muze@PICC is completed and buyers have already moved in, while Senze@PICC – the smart serviced residences at the heart of the project – will be ready in the first half of 2027.
“Senze will be directly connected via a covered walkway to what will be northern Malaysia’s largest mall and Penang’s tallest commercial building complemented by a five-star hotel, global business services (GBS) offices and even a future LRT station on the Penang Pearl Line.
“This is why we want more people – especially here in Seberang Perai – to understand the prospects PICC will bring.”
Sundarajoo, in his speech said, the state government maintains a pro-business environment while ensuring both developers and authorities comply with procedure.
“We are not a ‘Developer Association Party’, but we support developers who operate responsibly and deliver real value and affordable options to the public.
“Penang always strives to move forward in partnership, and PICC will not only become a commercial catalyst for Penang and Malaysia, but a future hub that attracts global and local opportunities,” said Sundarajoo.
A snaking queue soon formed for the carnival’s most talked-about attraction – the Cash Tornado – where people tried to catch gift vouchers in a whirlwind chamber.
There was laughter and enthusiasm as onlookers encouraged the participants.
Also present were Hunza group founder and executive advisor Datuk Seri Khor Teng Tong and property sales and marketing chief executive officer Datuk Lily Tan Siew Feng.
Hunza, with its more than 47 years in property development, vows to place people and long-term value at the heart of its developments.
As night fell, Snowvember’s lights glowed brighter with families lingering to enjoy Penang’s “winter carnival”.
