‘Many unaware of state’s new death benefit scheme’

Anfaal: State allocated RM12mil for KDE this year.

TWO assemblymen have called for Selangor government to promote and create greater awareness of its new Khairat Darul Ehsan (KDE) death benefit scheme.

Tony Leong Tuck Chee (PH-Pandamaran) and Danial Al-Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid (PH-Batu Tiga) noted that many people did not know about the scheme or that they had to re-register their details, even if they were already enrolled in other programmes.

“If more than 200,000 people have yet to update their details, that means they are still unaware of the new scheme.

“So they need to register and qualify for death benefits under KDE,” said Leong.

Danial Al-Rashid suggested the authorities allow automatic transfer of data from other schemes to KDE, and also allow recipients or their next-of-kin to voluntarily update details at a later time or when they needed to claim the benefits.

Both assemblymen posed supplementary questions to state women empowerment and welfare committee chairman Anfaal Saari regarding KDE registration details during the Selangor State Assembly sitting at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor in Shah Alam yesterday.

It was earlier reported that KDE was a new initiative launched by Selangor government in mid-2025 that offers RM1,000 cash to help next-of-kin upon the passing of a family member.

Previous death benefit schemes channelled through Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) have now been consolidated into KDE, which is managed by Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas).

KDE is open to Selangor residents aged 50 and above as well as disabled individuals who are voters and Selangor residents.

It is open to Muslims and non-Muslims.

Existing members under SMUE and similar programmes need to verify their details and agree to become KDE members via the kde.yawas.com.my website.

New members can register through the same site.

Selangor government allocated RM12mil for KDE this year.

Anfaal said a total of 99,621 KDE applications had been approved as of Oct 30, while 17,845 were under review.

“A total of 5,259 applications were incomplete while 618 applications were unsuccessful.”

Anfaal disclosed that of the 123,343 applications received, 8,507 were from persons with disabilities, 75,935 from the 50-60 age group and 38,901 from the over-60s.

“A total of 385,903 SMUE members are eligible to register under the KDE programme.

“Of that number, 89,346 people have been successfully registered for KDE, while 296,557 people have yet to update their information.”

She added that Yawas would promote KDE through assemblymen’s service centres.
