THE sun was blazing, but visitors to the Paddy Field Carnival in Sungai Besar, Selangor, found a way to cool themselves down.
They joyfully plunged into the wet, slushy paddy fields for an afternoon of fun and games.
The day-long event that kicked off at 8am was a vibrant mix of activities.
The fields echoed with the shouts of excitement from participants in futsal matches, and the quacks of consternation from the targets in the duck-catching competitions.
Even the most cautious participants, who had vowed to stay clean and dry at the start, found themselves knee-deep in mud by the time the day was done.
This twist often began innocently – perhaps with a misstep that sent someone slipping into the muddy irrigation canals of the paddy fields.
Others succumbed to the coaxing of their friends, who lured them into a man-made pond for a splashing good time.
The lively carnival ended at 11pm with a 5km fun stroll around the paddy fields.
