The ones having the most fun are the children who are seen here jumping to their hearts’ content in the bouncy castle.

MANY adults may recall the childhood joy of sack races during their schooldays.

Putrajaya Recreation Day participants had the opportunity to relive those days in a race at the event.

“Taking part in a sack race is guaranteed to make you laugh,” said participant Fadzli Anuar, 35.

The marine engineer who took part in the event with his wife, Saedah Mokhtar, 35, a teacher, said he came to relax and recharge after a long work week.

“Events like these are also good for one’s mental health. It’s good to have an outlet to release all that accumulated stress,” he added.

Organised by Putrajaya Corporation (PPj), the event was held at the Putrajaya Water Sports Complex in Precinct 6 and had a laidback Hawaiian theme.

Participation in the event’s games and activities was free for the public.

Visitors were also given free entry to the swimming pool and complimentary use of the paddle boats.

The main sporting activity at this year’s event was the swim marathon which took place at the Putrajaya lake.

Attracting up to 530 participants, the international event saw competitors attempting to swim distances of 1.5km, 2.5km and 3km.

Putrajaya Corporation president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud, 58, who opened the event, later presented lucky draw prizes and congratulated the swim marathon winners.

He said the yearly event was an effort to foster a healthy lifestyle and support the implementation of a National Sports Day.

He added that it also highlighted Putrajaya’s identity as a premier recreational city and a top destination for leisure and sporting activities.

“This event is special as it is organised by junior officers of the Federal Territory’s local authority.

“This year, it is headed by Mohamad Sujairi Mohd Ishak, 49, an administration officer in our City Services Department,” said Fadlun.

He added that the planning for the activities had been handled by PPj staff who were mostly a sports-oriented lot.

Mohamad Sujairi is a triathlete. Adi Khirman Marji, 42, who works in the same department and co-organiser of the event, is a base jumper, paraglider, sky diver and mountain climber.

Even the event’s media officer Mohd Bazly Mohamad Najib, 41, is an accomplished skateboarder.

As for Fadlun, although he does not play a particular sport, the town planner walks 7km on his rest days.

It was an enjoyable day for the adults, with many saying the highlight was the free Milo because it brought back memories of their school sports days.

There was even a stall for fans of Hotwheels.

Mohd Amiruddin Abu Bakar, 40, who brought along his collection of die-cast toy cars to the event, was heard quipping that these toys were very suitable for “kids” above the age of 30.

The ones who had the most fun were the children who jumped to their hearts’ content on the bouncy castles and had a splashing good time at the man-made beach.

Amri Mohd Karim, 33, who brought his four-year-old daughter Annur Ayra to play at the beach, said he liked bringing her to such events.

“It’s far cheaper than going to a mall. The physical exercise and activities also help her sleep better at night,” he said.

This year’s recreation day was PPj’s fourth.

The first was held at Anjung Floria, Precinct 4, in 2022. The theme was recreational vehicles, which saw the arrival of motorhomes and camper vans.

The second was also held at the same location. It featured the longest picnic, where 1,000 visitors formed a 709.5m line.

The administrative capital’s water sports complex with its man-made beach and a swimming enclosure within the Putrajaya lake, became the venue for the third and latest event.
