KLANG Royal City Council (MBDK) issued compounds totalling RM12,000 to a cluster of four premises operating without a valid business licence in Kampung Air Hitam off Jalan Langat.

They were involved in processing and storage of scrap metal, engineering works, storage and sorting of used clothing as well as storage of general goods.

MBDK Corporate Communications Department director Norfiza Mahfiz said the four had been operating without a licence since last year.

All were located in the same area and MBDK’s Licensing and Enforcement Department inspected the premises following public complaints.

She said the scrap metal was collected and compressed into blocks before being sold to the recycling industry.

Norfiza said that under the Licensing, Trade, Business and Industry (MBDK) By-Laws 2007, compounds of between RM2,000 and RM4,000 were issued to owners for not having valid business licences.

“Our personnel directed the business owners to apply for a valid licence after issuing the compound notices.”

Separately, MBDK personnel from the Licensing and Enforcement, Environmental Services and Engineering departments held a joint operation with North Klang Police District to demolish two makeshift structures used for a carwash business at Sementa in Kapar.

Norfiza said the illegal structure and a concrete scupper drain were demolished.

“MBDK had issued three notices under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 that prohibits building or maintaining any unauthorised permanent structure, obstruction or projection on public streets, drains or footpaths.

“Demolition was done as the notice was not complied with,” she said, adding that no fines were issued. — By EDWARD RAJENDRA
