Motorists call for better signage at Jalan Beringin ramp

Motorists on Jalan Beringin (at right) must exercise caution while merging with the traffic coming down from the ramp.

MOTORISTS using Jalan Beringin in Kuala Lumpur are calling on the authorities to instal clearer signage at a tricky merging point near Pusat Bandar Damansara commercial area.

Motorists coming from the Jalan Beringin slip road reported that they faced blind spots at the site where they merge with traffic descending from the adjacent ramp.

This followed the reopening of Jalan Beringin on Sept 15.

Vehicles travelling from Petaling Jaya towards Kuala Lumpur can use the Jalan Beringin ramp to bypass Jalan Johar to reach Jalan Semantan and the SPRINT Highway.

Jalan Beringin was previously closed for upgrading and widening works.

StarMetro had on Sept 2 reported on the delays in the reopening of Jalan Beringin, which Bukit Damansara residents had been waiting for to alleviate traffic.

Bukit Damansara House Owners Association deputy president Ravi Markandu said motorists exiting the Jalan Beringin ramp were travelling fast while coming down the road.

“Meanwhile, motorists traveling on the slip road adjacent to the ramp must be cautious of the merging traffic.

“We have received complaints from residents that vehicles from both traffic streams have to brake suddenly to avoid an accident,” said Ravi, who is also the Segambut Subzone 3 Federal Territory Residents Representative Council (MPPWP) chairman.

He said the association had highlighted the matter to SPRINT Highway consultants during a meeting in September.

“We suggest better signage to caution motorists at the road’s merging point,” he added.

SPRINT in a statement said the spot at the merging point of two traffic streams toward Kuala Lumpur was reviewed by the road safety auditor and it was deemed adequate.

“Nevertheless, SPRINT will continue to monitor the location closely and will implement further mitigation measures if necessary, to ensure the safety of all road users,” said the statement.

Meanwhile, Ravi said the reopening of Jalan Beringin had improved traffic flow in the area.

“It channels traffic from the Bukit Damansara neighbourhood to Kuala Lumpur better.

“Residents now can avoid the peak-hour jam on the slip road and use the ramp instead,” he said.
