Exco: Plans for works at city landmarks, 0km marker could be next tourist attraction
Johor government is stepping up efforts to enhance Johor Baru city’s image through upgrades to key public spaces and landmarks.
These include works at the iconic 0km marker, the starting point for road networks across Peninsular Malaysia.
State housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said upgrading works at the landmark were aimed not only at beautifying the area.
“The city’s 0km landmark could become a new attraction for locals and tourists following its facelift.
“Upgrading works have enhanced the appearance of the area while adding value to Johor Baru’s identity as a modern and attractive city,” he said.
Mohd Jafni added that he had inspected the upgraded site with Johor Baru mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad after a discussion on the progress of works on the city’s landmarks.
The Bukit Permai assemblyman said the upgrading exercise was about enhancing the city’s image and improving the comfort of visitors.
“I want every project implemented by local authorities in Johor to be properly monitored and completed to a high standard to provide real benefits to the people,” he said.
He added that attention to public spaces and landmarks was important in ensuring that Johor Baru continued to develop as a vibrant, people-friendly city.
Mohd Jafni also said during his recent visit to Danga Park, a recreational public park in the city, he found it to be popular among the locals and bustling with visitors following upgrades.
“Spaces like these provide opportunities for people to spend quality time together to strengthen relationships.”
Mohd Jafni added that he also spoke with several visitors and listened to their views on public facilities and their surroundings.
Such feedback, he said, was important in helping local authorities improve the quality of their services and ensure that facilities met the needs of the community.
Mohd Jafni said public spaces played an important role in creating a city that was liveable for residents while also offering attractive places for visitors to explore.
He also posted a reel on social media showing the improved area around the 0km marker, now adorned with lights, sculptures and a seating area.
