Security agencies in Selangor convened in Petaling Jaya for a joint tabletop exercise to test emergency response plans during a simulated public order threat.
Organised by Selangor National Security Council (MKN) alongside state police, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and the state government, the drill tested coordination across multiple agencies.
Participants tackled a mock scenario of a riot involving football fans escalating from MBPJ Stadium to the Glenmarie LRT station, featuring flares, firecrackers, widespread vandalism and casualties.
They were told the brawl began with a fight between supporters, resulting in damage to property, injuries and loss of life.
The day-long programme included briefings on MKN Directive No.21 on handling public order threats and the emergency response, followed by the tabletop exercise.
Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said such exercises allowed agencies to identify weaknesses, gaps, overlapping roles or communication problems before a real incident occurs.
“The findings from this exercise must be translated into follow-up action and improvements by each agency,” he said when launching the exercise at Dewan D’Kelana, Petaling Jaya.
He said Selangor’s population of nearly 7.5 million meant agencies had to be ready to respond quickly, as small incidents could escalate quickly.
Managing public order, he added, was not the job of a single agency.
MKN Selangor in a media statement said the exercise tested crowd management, command and control, and coordination between agencies in a public transport setting.
