Agri-food products from Sungai Perak catches are being promoted at the third edition of Perak Fish Fiesta in Kuala Kangsar.
The event, organised by Perak Fisheries Department at Sungai Perak rest area (R&R) (southbound) of the North-South Highway, will see food and product promotions every weekend until Nov 15.
State rural development, plantation, agriculture and food industry committee chairman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun said the fiesta aimed to promote agri-food products derived from the state’s fisheries industry.
“These products are the result of efforts by recipients of state government assistance under a Perak Fisheries Department programme.

“I urge all Perakians and visitors stopping at the rest area to support the state government’s efforts to promote freshwater fish and savour the delicious tastes at ‘Hub Menu Ikan Sungai’,” he said after launching the fiesta, Bernama reported.
Earlier, Mohd Zolkafly released 12,000 baung (catfish) and 500 temoleh (carp) fingerlings into Sungai Perak to replenish fish stocks and conserve biodiversity.
Perak Fisheries Department director Mohd Ghazali Abdul Manap said the fiesta had the potential to serve as a platform to promote river fish.
He said it was modelled after an idea from Temerloh, Pahang, where eateries at highway rest areas offered a variety of Sungai Pahang fish dishes.
He added that Perak, as one of Malaysia’s major fish-producing states, has huge potential to expand the promotion of its fishery products, encompassing both freshwater and marine fish.
