THE Penang2030 Festival will return to Komtar on Oct 11 with a new line-up of educational and community programmes, this time centred on astronomy.
“This year, it is once again being celebrated in both Seberang Perai and the island so everyone can share in the excitement while embracing the vision of Penang2030,” said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at a press conference.
It follows the success of last month’s Seberang Perai edition which drew more than 8,000 visitors.
“The strong response reflects the people’s support for the state’s development vision.
“With this synergy between the government and community, we hope to again attract over 8,000 visitors to Komtar,” said Chow.
The event will feature planetarium explorations, space exhibitions, a children’s science costume contest, astronomy showcases and free tours of Tech Dome and Penang Island City Council’s (MBPP) CCTV Control Centre.
There will also be a “Rentak Belia” talent show and workshops on science, batik, upcycling and environmental sustainability.
“We are also collaborating with the Fire and Rescue Department for fire safety simulations, while other workshops will promote innovation, green living and community involvement in shaping the state’s future,” Chow said.
Since its launch last year, the Penang2030 Festival has become a signature event of the state.
“It is a bridge between government policies and the people, showing that our aspirations for a smart and green Penang can be translated into real benefits for the community.
“Let us make this festival not only a space for learning and entertainment, but also a symbol of the people’s participation in realising Penang’s aspirations,” said Chow, inviting Penangites to come out in large numbers.
Present were Penang Green Council general manager Josephine Tan, MBPP secretary Cheong Chee Hong and other senior officials.
