MBIP to act on back lane obstructions

Car workshops in Iskandar Puteri risk enforcement action if they leave vehicles in lanes behind their premises.

AUTO workshops in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, have been warned about parking vehicles in back lanes.

Iskandar Puteri mayor Hasrin Kamal Hashim said according to trade, business and industry by-laws, measures that could be taken include issuing a notice to remove the obstruction or a compound summons.

“Their business licence can also be suspended or revoked if they continue to park in the back lanes vehicles awaiting repair,” he said, referring to Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171).

“When businesses obtain a premises licence from the local council, they are to ensure compliance with local zoning, health and safety standards.”

The back lanes of residential, commercial and industrial properties should be free of obstruction as they might be used by rubbish trucks to collect waste, he said.

Hasrin Kamal said backlanes were also misused by people abandoning their dilapidated vehicles there.

“Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) will conduct regular inspections to ensure workshops comply with the rules and not misuse public spaces.”

On a separate matter, he said MBIP was tackling the crow overpopulation in residential, business and recreational areas.

“To deal with the crow issue, MBIP can resort to nest-netting, poisoning and shooting operations,” he said.

Shooting, done twice a week at locations with high crow density, are carried out by the city council’s Enforcement Department together with the Health Department.

The results are presented at MBIP’s monthly tourism and environment committee meeting.

“The public can also play their part by disposing of food waste properly, as these birds are scavengers,” he said.
