MUSIC, games and a strong sense of community helped raise more than RM17,000 for a community resource centre in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.
The student-led “Hearts for Hope” Campaign 2025 was organised by second-year Diploma in Public Relations students from Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), with non-governmental organisation (NGO) Malaysian Care.
Proceeds will be channelled to Pusat Sumber Komuniti Care at Taman Danau Kota Flats, Prima Setapak to support its operations.
It will also help provide mental health counselling for the elderly and fund a new music corner for children featuring ukuleles, an electronic piano and kalimbas.
The campaign was held over five-day period at TAR UMT’s main campus in Kuala Lumpur.
“This campaign proves that when students, communities and partners come together with compassion and commitment, real change is possible,” said campaign chairman Lee Qin Rou.
“Hearts for Hope is not just about raising funds but also about raising hope.”
The campaign’s highlight was “From Ringgit to Reality”, an interactive activity that drew nearly 1,000 visitors to understand the challenges faced by the urban poor, ranging from financial strain to social stereotypes and limited access to necessities.
Other activities, including student performances, a food bazaar, photo booths and games, added to the event’s festive atmosphere while reinforcing its message on compassion.
The initiative also reflected TAR UMT’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals on poverty, health and education.
