TAMAN Jinjang Baru squatters in Kepong are appealing to the government for people’s housing project (PPR) units after being ordered to vacate their homes.

About 30 households at the 2.9ha Lot 56167 received notice on Sept 9, to leave by Sept 23.

Housewife Yean Siew Ping said she and her family had nowhere else to go.

“All we are asking for is a place to stay, whether it is a PPR flat or public housing (PA) unit.”

Yean said residents had applied online for PPR units, but had yet to receive response from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Another resident, identified only as Chew, said he and the residents’ lawyer would attend a hearing at Kuala Lumpur High Court tomorrow to see if the eviction deadline could be extended.

He claimed residents who had attended a meeting in August with the Federal Territories Director General of Lands and Mines Department (JKPTG) were told that PPR flats would be allocated to them.

Yean says she has nowhere to go after being evicted. Yean says she has nowhere to go after being evicted.

“We have nowhere to stay after the eviction,” he reiterated.

Kepong MCA chairman Tan Kok Eng said he would meet with Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa to discuss the squatters’ eviction and alternative housing.

“I will also ask MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng to write a letter urging DBKL to accommodate the squatters in nearby PPR units in Kepong.

“If the matter is not resolved, we will also raise it in Parliament,” added Tan.

Although the eviction has been extended a few times, residents have now been issued a court order to vacate by Sept 23.

They were first asked to vacate their homes on Nov 14, 2024, by the Federal Land Commissioner.

On April 7, they received another eviction notice from a legal firm representing the company that had leased the land from Federal Territories JKPTG.

A JKPTG letter dated Aug 15, 2024, confirmed that the company had leased the land for three years, from Oct 1 last year to Sept 30, 2027, to construct a warehouse.
