THE Kinrara Youth Festival 2025 will be a first of its kind event “organised by youth for youth” in Puchong, Selangor.
The event will be held on Sept 14, from noon to midnight, at Taman Wawasan Recreational Park.
“The festival, themed ‘Build Different’, aims to allow youths to showcase their talents and abilities, conveying the message that young people are also dependable, and build a platform for cross-generational exchange,” said organising committee chairman Lee Jun Xian.
“It is a platform for youths to share their creativity and talent, and show that we, too, can contribute to the community in a positive way.”
He said the festival would host activities such as a coffee rave featuring DJ Lollipop and two coffee vendors, a bazaar showcasing handmade crafts and food and beverages by 30 young entrepreneurs.
There will also be a fitness workshop, night campfire with singalong sessions and networking opportunities as well as a car boot sale offering pre-loved items.
“DJ Lollipop, whose real name is Lawrence Anthony, was certified as the youngest DJ in Malaysia by the Malaysia Book of Records in March 2022 when he was 12,” said Lee during a press conference on the festival.
He added that there would also be a live band, performances and workshops.
The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) Penggerak Belia Selangor (PeBS) chapter will organise a Malaysia Day Walk as part of the festival.
The walk, set to start at 5.30pm, will take participants on a 1.5km route through the park.
“There will be six checkpoints along the route and participants will have to answer patriotic-themed quizzes at each checkpoint to earn a stamp,” said MBSJ Zone 16 PeBS chairman Venice Ho Yuen Yu.
“They will get to redeem a goodie bag upon completing the walk and collecting all six stamps,” she said, adding that Jalur Gemilang will also be distributed in the spirit of National Day and Malaysia Day.
MBSJ PeBS central chairman Melvin Chan Weng Hong said they had been distributing the flags since mid-August.
While it is known as a youth festival, Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han said the event was open to the young and old, particularly those living in and around Puchong.
“We hope to dispel the negative perceptions associated with them, by getting youths to run an entire festival, from organising and planning to handling everything on the day of the event,” he said.
“We need to correct the ‘labels’ associated with youths, such as that they are addicted to gadgets and do not care about what is happening around them.
“This festival gives them a chance to show what they can do and the contributions they can make to the community.”
Ng said the festival was organised by a group of 51 former and current interns from his office.
“This group comprises people of different backgrounds and education institutions, who also have different views.
“They give me a lot of good suggestions and sometimes challenge me in how I do or view things,” the Selangor investment, trade and mobility committee chairman said.
Chan said the organisers were looking for volunteers to help with the Malaysia Day Walk.
