Ng says the state’s focus is to build a more complete ecosystem for the semiconductor industry.
SELANGOR’s second integrated circuit (IC) design park, a hub for the state’s growing semiconductor industry, is set to open in Cyberjaya come November.
State investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han said the park, which would be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was expected to house about 12 IC design companies.
Ng said the first IC design park in Bandar Puteri Puchong has been filled by 12 firms, comprising local players as well as companies from China, Australia, the US and France.
“The state’s focus is to build a more complete ecosystem for the industry, as a stronger ecosystem will, in turn, provide greater benefits to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country,” he told reporters during the Kinrara Youth Festival 2025 at Taman Wawasan recreational park in Puchong.
To encourage greater local participation, Ng said several initiatives were being introduced, including a local content policy to be launched within the next two to three months.
“We have also arranged meetings between different industries, such as data centres and IC design companies, to help them understand each other’s needs and capabilities.
“Another round of engagements will be organised between data centres, the automotive sector, aerospace players and IC design firms,” he said.
Ng added that such dialogues and networking sessions were crucial in identifying industry needs, especially as the state worked within limited budgets and resources.
He also said the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) had a pre-launch and would take place in October.
“SIBS is expected to become one of the key events to attract more quality investors into the state,” he said.
On whether there would be an increase in investment targets compared to last year, Ng said it was still uncertain due to tariffs imposed on certain goods exported to the US.
“I see that many multinational companies are adopting a wait-and-see approach and are closely observing developments following the implementation of these tariffs.
“However, I believe this stance will not last long as they still need to expand their businesses and establish alternative supply chains.
“For now, the situation remains unclear and we will need to keep observing for some time,” he said.
