THREE short-term flood mitigation projects totalling RM9.8mil have been completed in Kuala Lumpur’s Segambut constituency.

These include upgrading the drainage system in Jalan Parlimen, sand dredging work on Sungai Toba and upgrading the drainage system at Bulatan Segambut.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif said another three medium-term flood mitigation projects were in the planning stage.

“The projects will be at the confluence of Sungai Batu and Sungai Gombak, Sungai Toba and Sungai Keroh as well as Sungai Keroh and Sungai Batu.

“The estimated cost of these projects is RM13mil,” she said during the “Dialog Bandar Raya 2025” for Segambut constituency.

Maimunah said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had set up a “Zero Waste Zone” at the Sunway SPK Damansara community garden.

“The programme can help reduce the RM260mil annual expense on waste management.

“If we can cut waste disposal expenditure by half, we may have another RM130mil for other areas such as development, facilities as well as maintenance of amenities,” she said.

The main goal of setting up the “Zero Waste Zone” was to reduce waste being sent to landfills by 20%, processing organic waste into compost and recycling non-organic waste, she added.

The dialogue session at Manjalara Community Centre in Bandar Sri Manjalara served as a platform for residents of various neighbourhoods to raise their concerns to City Hall.

DBKL executive director (Socioeconomic Development) Ismadi Sakirin was also present to address questions.

“Illegal parking, lack of parking spots and untrimmed trees are among issues raised during DBKL dialogue sessions held so far, including in Setiawangsa and Titiwangsa,” he said.

“We will continue to look into these issues and act on them.”
