Seri Kembangan folk take National Day poll on facility in their neighbourhood

RESIDENTS of Taman Bukit Serdang in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, spent the morning of National Day choosing between four options for an upgrade of their neighbourhood park.

Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki said the voting process for the facility in Jalan BS5/28 was even more meaningful as it was done in conjunction with the country’s independence day.

“The residents are involved in deciding how they want their park to be developed,” she said.

She disclosed that the RM200,000 upgrade allocation came from Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin’s constituency funds.

“She wanted us to upgrade the park based on what the residents want.

“So we decided to have a simple voting exercise with residents choosing two out of the four ideas,” said Wong.

“The idea with the most votes will be implemented, with construction work expected to start this year.

“The other ideas will be planned for future implementation,” she added.

The ideas were for a viewing pavilion, community garden, open pavilion and sunken seat, with the viewing pavilion ending up tops.

Wong said Yeoh wanted the park to become a modern facility with the eventual inclusion of all these features.

Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) Zone 22 councillor Tey Boon Kiat said requests to upgrade pavements would be carried out in phases.

At a separate event, Yeo said her office decided to channel funds into improving the Jalan BS5/28 park as part of its yearly support of local infrastructure.

“Every year, we receive allocations to support schools and public facilities.

“This time, I wanted to focus on community parks, which are important spaces for senior citizens and young children,” she said.

Yeo added that the RM200,000 allocation would be spent in stages, with about RM50,000 to be used this year.

At the same function, Tey said several roads in Seri Kembangan were undergoing resurfacing works worth RM2.94mil under the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris) allocation, with completion by the end of October.

On the issue of individuals claiming to be contractors asking residents for payment, he said: “MBSJ-appointed contractors are not authorised to collect any money from residents.

“If you are approached, take a photo and forward it to my office so we can act.”
