RESIDENTS in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam in Selangor, had the chance to discover how artificial intelligence (AI) can be applied in their daily lives, thanks to a seminar organised by AI@Malaysia.
The one-day event was part of AI@Malaysia’s efforts to reach local communities, and marked the sixth edition of the programme following similar sessions in Puchong, Rawang, Petaling Jaya and Kuala Kubu Baru, all in Selangor, and one in Penang.
Each session is designed to make AI more approachable, and show how it can be used in everyday tasks.
The goal is to give participants access to AI specialists who can break down complex topics into understandable, real-world applications.
Kota Kemuning assemblyman Preakas Sampunathan, who launched the event at Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) Kenanga Hall, noted that AI was no longer the exclusive domain of tech professionals.
“Its recent surge in popularity is due to how accessible it has become,” he said, adding that all Malaysians could benefit from learning the basics.
“Even simple tasks like taking the bus or finding directions can be improved with AI tools,” Preakas added.
Organisers initially anticipated around 100 participants, but more than 300 people turned up for the seminar, which Preakas described as an encouraging sign.
“The turnout exceeded my expectations and showed that we need to keep providing these opportunities,” he said.
Among the attendees was Mohd Suwarno, a long-time Kota Kemuning resident who said he never had the chance to have an in-depth look at AI.
“I learned that its application is broader than what I initially believed.
“As a residents association committee member, I find that this knowledge can be applied in my daily life,” he said.
Another participant, an animator who only wanted to be known as JJ, said the seminar provided valuable insights into how AI was reshaping industries.
“I attended this to understand how AI is influencing the workforce and how I can implement it in my career,” he said.
