Fallen tree blocks traffic on Jln Batu Ferringhi

A TREE that fell across Jalan Batu Ferringhi on Penang Island blocked traffic for over an hour on Thursday (Aug 21) afternoon.

A Penang Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the department was informed of the incident at 3.25pm.

"A team of five firefighters from the Teluk Bahang station arrived about five minutes later," he said in a statement.

The spokesman said an operation to clear the fallen tree was initiated with the help of the Civil Defence Force (APM) and Penang Island City Council (MBPP).

He said the operation ended at about 4.30pm and no injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, a landslide occurred on Jalan Paya Terbang in Air Itam at 3.45pm during heavy rain.

The spokesman said the incident involved a slope near residential property.

He said monitoring was carried out with the involvement of the Public Works Department (JKR), police, state assemblyman and village chief.

He said the situation was under control, with no injuries reported.

JKR and the police would continue monitoring and take any follow-up action, he added.
