PEKAN Ampang came abuzz with creative vibes as a group of enthusiastic artists, under the auspices of Persatuan Pencinta Pekan Ampang, transformed the town’s walls into an open-air gallery.

A diverse crowd ranging from seasoned artists to avid sketchers and art hobbyists took part in a “Sketching of Pekan Ampang” programme that saw them highlighting in vivid colour their observations of the town in Selangor.

Their artworks, produced using materials such as watercolour and ink, captured elements of the town’s century-old shops, local food, places of worship, and bustling streetscapes.

The programme served as a prelude to the grand unveiling of the “Asal Usul Ampang” mural.

Over 60 artworks from the sketching programme are displayed during the launch of the ‘Asal Usul Ampang’ mural.

The mural itself delves deep into Ampang’s roots, particularly its pivotal role as a thriving tin-mining hub.

The mural, painted over two months on the wall of a shophouse in the town, depicts local stories of resilience, hard work, and cultural harmony.

Beyond celebrating the area’s illustrious tin-mining heritage, the artworks also served to honour Pekan Ampang itself.

They are a visual commemoration of the town’s journey, its charm and the resilient spirit of its people.
