‘Local bodies should work together for mutual gain’

COLLABORATIONS among local authorities have the potential to benefit employees’ career development and provide opportunities for skill enhancement through workshops and networking, says Malaysian Association of Local Authorities (Mala) president Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain (pic).

“Fostering working partnerships with other local authorities can lead to improved service delivery and broader professional growth,” he said.

Abd Hamid, who is Klang mayor, was appointed Mala president on April 25, taking over from Melaka mayor Datuk Shadan Othman.

Abd Hamid said in his two-year tenure, he also planned to enhance sports among local authorities, with a focus on promoting women in sports.

Other than through working partnerships, he said sports could bring about economic benefits, with each council hosting major sporting events, thus boosting inclusive participation and strengthening friendships.

Abd Hamid added that as the new Mala president, he planned to focus on discussing matters with Housing and Local Government Ministry pertaining to career development of local council employees.
