A grand reunion for Border Regiment Third Battalion saw some 500 veterans and their family members gathered in Pengkalan Hulu town in Hulu Perak.

The event at Dewan Sri Kroh saw members of Border Regiment Battalion Infantry 303/3 rekindle friendships, as some had not seen each other for more than 25 years.

Reunion coordinating officer Maj (Rtd) S. Kuberakusalan said attendees included those from Sabah and Sarawak.

“We gather here to continue strengthening our relationship.

“Even though not everyone came, I believe they truly wanted to be with us.

“Unfortunately, some couldn’t attend due to their new careers after retiring from the battalion.

“There are also some who are unable to join us due to health, cost and distance, as they live in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan,” Kuberakusalan said in his reunion speech.

He said this was the fourth gathering, with the first being in 2017.

“Due to encouraging response and popular demand, a second one was held in 2018.

“After the Covid-19 pandemic and easing of lockdown measures, we held the third reunion in 2022,” he said, also thanking the attendees and battalion veterans and friends who helped make the event a success.

Guest of honour at the reunion was former third battalion commanding officer Maj-Jen (Rtd) Datuk Abdullah Babu.

During the event, hampers and aid were presented to disabled members, while a short prayer was held for those who had passed.

Guests were treated to a sumptuous lunch while being entertained by Tiga Nol Tiga Band consisting of current and former personnel. — By IVAN LOH
