EACH year, former students of St Paul’s Institution (SPI) in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, gather to strengthen bonds, some formed since primary school.

This year, 58 people from near and far, including Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore, attended the reunion that had special meaning as it marked 40 years since they left in 1986.

The day’s programme began with a spirited pickleball session, followed by the book launch of CQ: The Missing Link Between IQ and EQ — Inching Toward Life’s Success by Asohan Satkunasingham and culminated with a dinner at India Gate Restaurant in Seremban 2.

“The reunion reflected the formative influence of SPI where values, discipline and friendships first took root,” said Asohan.

The school’s enduring motto of “Virtue and Labour” continues to be reflected in the lives of its alumni, fostering strong bonds.

With its rich multi-ethnic composition, the gathering stood as a living example of unity in diversity, he added.

Organising committee chairman Param Palany expressed his appreciation to those who attended, noting that it made the evening memorable.

He said it was a privilege for the organising team to host the event and extended his gratitude to sponsors and supporters who helped make it a success.

The theme for the day, “Class of ‘86 Unites” resonated throughout the event, reflecting a shared spirit that transcends time, distance and background, he added.

Co-chairperson Ahmad Izany described the reunion as a testament to the enduring bonds formed in school, friendships that not only last but continue to deepen even after 40 to 50 years.

The event served as a reminder of a shared journey shaped by time, experience and values.
