A CONDOMINIUM developer has been ordered to remove road barriers that have caused a traffic gridlock in Section 16 of Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said barriers at the end of Jalan Dato Abu Bakar into Jalan 16/11 were placed without approval from Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).

“The developer has not applied for a permit to use the road.

“Our officers who visited the site ordered them to be removed,” he said of barriers facilitating lorries accessing the site of the condominium project.

A check by StarMetro yesterday found barriers along Jalan 16/11 removed, while those closing the access road from Jalan Dato Abu Bakar to SPRINT Highway remained.

Motorists heading to SPRINT have been cutting across Jalan 16/11 to get to the highway.

MBPJ said the stretch of road that remained closed to traffic was under the jurisdiction of SPRINT.

A SPRINT spokesperson, when contacted, said they were looking into the matter.

R. Priya, who works at Phileo Damansara, said the barriers had narrowed Jalan 16/11 while making it dangerous because of motorists wanting to get to SPRINT highway.

“I feel nervous turning from Jalan Dato Abu Bakar to Jalan 16/11 as some cars stop abruptly at the corner to turn into SPRINT,” she said.
