THE title “Knight of Shosa” (Sacred Heart School Old Students Association) symbolises a lifelong duty to serve, protect and give back to the school, its president Penghulu Yong King Sun says.
“I trust that all Knights of Shosa will continue to uphold the traditions of excellence, service and loyalty to the school, ensuring its legacy endures for generations to come.”
He said this at the association’s annual general meeting prior to its reunion dinner.
Yong stressed that the school had imparted more than academic knowledge.
“Our teachers shaped our character.
“They taught us to strive with purpose, lead with integrity and be fearless in the face of challenges,” he said.
He thanked the school’s past and present teachers for shaping generations of students.
Yong also recognised the roles of the school’s past leaders.
These included founding figures like Father Aloysius Hopfgartner, and principals such as Brother Albinus Michael O’Flaherty.
The late Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew, who was also an alumnus, was also remembered for his lasting contributions.
Yong also stressed the need for younger leaders to step up.
“With 20 years of stewardship by the ’80s Knights, it is now time for a new era.
“I am confident that by the next AGM in 2026, we will witness the rise of leaders from the ’90s and 2000s.
“We must support the younger generation of ‘knights’, mentoring them to take up the mantle of leadership with the same passion and dedication as our predecessors had,” he urged.
He said Shosa aimed to boost network ties through smaller reunions that foster deeper connections among alumni members.
The milestone reunions, he said, would be held every five years.
The next major reunion will take place in 2027 to mark SMK Sacred Heart’s 125th anniversary.
