BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Temburong police successfully thwarted an attempted smuggling of contraband on New Year’s Day at the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien (SHOAS) Bridge, following a tip-off from the public.

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) reported that Temburong Police Station received information around noon about a suspicious vehicle suspected of transporting contraband.

Acting swiftly, a police patrol unit was deployed to the SHOAS Bridge, where they intercepted the vehicle heading towards Bandar Seri Begawan.

The contraband seized by the police.

Upon inspection, authorities discovered 456 cans and 60 bottles of alcohol, along with 100 cartons of cigarettes in the vehicle.

The driver, a local unemployed individual, was detained, and the vehicle was seized for further investigation.

The RBPF expressed gratitude to members of the public for their assistance in providing information that led to the successful prevention of the smuggling attempt.

They also encouraged continued cooperation to ensure the safety and security of the nation. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
