A back-to-basics approach will be implemented to ensure that all issues faced by residents of Perak’s capital are addressed, says new Ipoh mayor Zamakshari Hanipah.
He said focus would be given to issues like rubbish collection, drainage systems and overgrown grass as well as maintenance of public facilities so that the city could be clean and environmentally friendly.
“We must see that all city council services can be delivered so that Ipoh residents feel a high level of satisfaction.
“Every service provided must be delivered within a set time frame, while every project that is to be implemented must run smoothly,” he said in his speech during an Ipoh City Council (MBI) full board meeting.
Zamakshari added that a problem-solving approach would also be adopted.
“Sometimes there are issues that require us to establish a mechanism to find solutions not through conventional methods.
“We must always understand the needs and specific situations to make the right decisions.
“My hope is to elevate public service and for our staff to be more productive and carry out their duties effectively,” he said.
Zamakshari received his appointment letter from Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad on April 16.
The former National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) deputy director-general (Disaster Preparation and Planning) had also served as National Solid Waste Management Department director-general, Road Transport Department deputy director-general and director of the Terengganu and Selangor security councils.
He was also Hulu Gerik district officer, Gerik District Council president and Perak security council assistant director.
Zamakshari said he would continue to establish closer and better relationships and cooperation with city councillors, the executive council, state government, Palace and relevant parties to develop the city.
“I hope to receive everyone’s support and commitment and expect that all parties will avoid actions that can tarnish the city council’s reputation.
“We need an efficient administration for effective implementation,” he added.
