PENANG folk have been urged to begin storing water now ahead of the scheduled water supply interruption on Friday (April 25).
Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) chief executive officer Datuk K. Pathmanathan advised them to store enough water for between 24 and 60 hours for the disruption, which will begin at 10pm on that day.
"Our statistics indicate that 341,708 consumers in the service areas of the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP) will be affected to varying degrees," he said in a statement on Tuesday (April 22).
Pathmanathan said 136,683 consumers will be affected for 24 hours from 10pm on Friday to 10pm on Saturday (April 26).
"They are those living in North Seberang Prai and Central Seberang Prai districts on the mainland and the North-East district on the island.
"Those affected for 48 hours (163,502 consumers) from 10pm on Friday to 10pm on Sunday (April 27) are those living in areas in South Seberang Prai except Kampung Sungai Baong, Kampung Wellesley, Taman Seruling Emas, Taman Widuri, Sungai Duri and the Penang Prison Quarters.
"Others who will be affected for 48 hours include the South-West district on the island, all affected areas except Balik Pulau (southern neighbourhoods), Gertak Sanggul, Kampung Terang, Pulau Betong and Sungai Ara," he said.
Pathmanathan said the 41,523 consumers affected for 60 hours from 10pm on Friday to 10pm on Monday (April 28) are those living at the end-of-line and high-ground neighbourhoods in South Seberang Prai on the mainland and the South-West district on the island.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow had said earlier that PBAPP will undertake 23 waterworks projects in nine installations simultaneously during a span of between 24 and 60 hours, affecting 341,708 consumers.
