Putra Heights inferno: Selangor govt looking to help victims find accommodations while houses being repaired

DISCUSSIONS are ongoing to help victims of the gas pipeline disaster in Putra Heights find accommodation while their houses are being repaired.

Selangor Disaster Management Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said this while visiting victims placed at the temporary evacuation centre in Dewan Kamelia, Masjid Putra Heights in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

“Our main concern is to look for a more comfortable place for the victims, taking into account that school will be starting next week and people will have to go back to work.

"The temporary relief shelter will not be able to accommodate the 383 people from 84 families for the long-term.

"Work on restoring the damaged houses will take time, as such, we are discussing how to house the victims in a more comfortable and organised manner,” said Najwan, who accompanied the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to visit the disaster site and comfort the victims.

He added that organisations like Yayasan Islam Darul Ehsan and Perbadanan Wakaf have provided allocations to assist the children of victims to return to school.

For victims whose houses are uninhabitable and are eager to return home, Mohd Najwan urged them to be patient.

“The heat from the inferno is still being felt, and there may be environmental concerns in terms of chemical reactions from the explosion itself. They should only return once the all-clear is given."

Separately, on his social media page, Selangor investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han announced that Chery would be providing 50 vehicles free of charge to help disaster victims through this difficult time.
