DBKL has removed the remains of the slide tube at the playground in Jalan 13/32, Taman Jinjang Baru and sealed it with tape.
KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has been urged to consider installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in playgrounds to curb vandalism.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng who said this was commenting on the vandalism incident at a playground on Jalan 13/32 in Taman Jinjang Baru on March 11, involving a slide tube and rubber flooring.
Lim said the slide tube and rubber flooring were upgraded last year with an allocation of RM200,000 by DBKL.
He had offered a RM500 reward to anyone who provided information about the vandals.
Two of his aides had since identified two individuals alleged to have been responsible and the information had been passed to the police.
“DBKL can also prevent vandalism through public awareness, improved lighting and strict enforcement.
“It should also encourage community reporting, establish neighbourhood watch programmes and cooperate with businesses and civic groups to enhance surveillance and deter crimes,” added Lim.
When contacted, community activist Yee Poh Ping opined that there was no need for CCTV system.
“I have been doing community service in Kepong for 30 years and this is the first time I have heard of such an incident.
“It could just be an isolated case, so there is no need to waste money on CCTV cameras.
“Instead, DBKL should make sure that the playground has proper lighting, especially at night, to prevent vandalism.”
When StarMetro visited the playground on March 17, DBKL had removed the slide tube and sealed it off with tape.
